Matej Kolenic, often known as “MK,” is a versatile musician, composer, and self-described Ethnopunker who has been active in Japan since 2014. He earned his M.A. in Musicology and Ethnomusicology from University College Cork (2013–2014) before moving to Japan to pursue his music career.
Over the past 11 years, he has performed with ensembles such as Shami-raga and JOGI, exploring a fusion of traditional and experimental sounds that reflect his unique ethnopunk ethos. In addition to composing and performing, he offers music tutoring and mentoring, emphasizing cultural hybridity and creative innovation in his teaching practice.
